Our Travel Adventure series offers an unparalleled opportunity to visit special places throughout the world, with trips oriented toward outdoor adventure and environmental awareness and led by our most experienced volunteer leaders.  In addition, the proceeds from these trips provide vital support for the work of the Angeles Chapter.

JUNE 7-14, 2014

Ever want to go "where the buffalo roam, and the deer and antelope play”?  South Dakota’s Black Hills is the place to go. Custer State Park is world renowned for its large buffalo herd. Bring your camera and binoculars as pronghorn antelope, prairie dogs, elk, deer, wild burros, mountain goats,and bighorn sheep inhabit the park and are often visible. Take a jeep safari to the buffalo herds followed by a chuckwagon BBQ. Other highlights include Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Jewel Cave and/or Wind Cave, hiking around Devils Tower and an optional trip to the Badlands. Join us for a 3-day, 2-night (plus time in Anchorage) trip to the premier Alaska brown bear viewing site. Spectacular wild bear viewing in the world at Katmai National Park; stay at the Brooks River Lodge cabins. The trip is limited to 10 participants. The price is $1,450  for Sierra Club members. JULY 26-AUG. 3, 2014

Spend nine days and eight nights on an Alaska wildlife adventure to see land and sea animals at two national parks (see above for add-on trip to Katmai National Park for spectacular bear viewing). Trip includes a full day sea adventure in Kenai Fjords National Park with a park ranger to view sea and land wildlife along with calving tidewater glaciers. Spend five days in Denali National Park with opportunities for hiking and wildlife observation. The price is $2,095 for Sierra Club members. Non-members add $100. Learn More >>

SEPTEMBER 4-27, 2014

  Take a long-distance hike along the ancient pilgrimage route across France and Spain to Santiago de Compostela continues in 2014 with a walk along the Camino del Norte, from Saint-Jean-de-Luz, France, to Oviedo, Spain. Experience the green meadows, lush forests and dramatic coastal cliffs as well as the architectural treasures ranging from a 1,200-year-old church near Oviedo to Frank Gehry's Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. OCTOBER 4-12, 2014

Join us for this 9-day fly-and-drive excursion to the wonders of New England in the fall. Highlights include exploring the Freedom Trail in Boston as well as visits to Paul Revere's house, Bunker Hill, and the USS Constitution and more. Also see fall colors of New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine. Trip cost is $1,350 for Sierra Club Members ($1,450 for non-members). Learn More

NOVEMBER 5-18, 2014

 Join an active adventure to Israel led by an Israeli and a veteran Sierra Club leader. Visit classic religious and historical sites, learn about the natural history that makes Israel a critical respite in wildlife migration, hike up Masada, stop at places along the Mediterranean Sea, experience the Jordan River and Sea of Galilee on this special Sierra Club trip. Nov. 7 to 17, Nepal Highlights Adventure, November 7-12: See the Himalayas, the world's highest mountains, wildlife and learn about the religion and culture of the Nepalese. Highlights include Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha; sightseeing in Kathmandu, visiting temples, markets, and other places in the capital; the famous Boudhanath temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site; and more. Group is limited to 27 participants. Cost is $1,500 per person for Sierra Club members who sign up by March 31, 2014; $1,575 per person after March 31, 2014; non-members add $100. Learn More >>

Nov. 12 to Dec. 1, Nepal Mountain Hiking Adventure: The 20-day trip starts with a hike to Mt. Everest Base camp (not the full hike but do a shorter version with less elevation gain than the typical route to base camp) to see the spectacular mountain as well as glacier and valley views. The trek begins in Lukla with a hike to Namche Bazaar and continues to Thame, Khumjung, Tengboche and other villages. The second hike visits the Langtang Valley to explore an area of the Himalayas near the Tibetan border. Group is limited to 15 participants. FEBRUARY 12-28, 2015
Thailand Cultural & Wildlife Adventure

Join us to see the cultural gems and wildlife of Thailand on a sightseeing and easy hiking adventure. In Bangkok visit the magnificent Grand Palace, huge reclining Buddha in Wat Pho temple, Boat trip in Bangkok canals, Thai Theater performance, National Museum full of Thailand’s treasures, Golden Mountain Temple & much more. Visit the ancient temple complex of Sukhothai, a UNESCO world heritage site and Thailand’s equivalent of Angor Wat. In depth tour of Ayutthaya, the Historic Capital City and UNESCO world heritage site, including Royal Palaces, Temples with Thailand’s largest Buddha image, and other priceless treasures. We will visit two premier Thai National Parks, Khao Yai National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site to see Elephants and Hornbills and on to the largest park, Kaeng Krachan, enjoying wildlife in this rich forest environment. Florida Keys and The Everglades

Join us for this 8 day, 7 night fly-drive excursion to the wonders of Florida Everglades and the Florida Keys. Highlights will be visiting the Everglades National Park, viewing the many varieties of birds such as Herons, Anhinga’s, Ibis, Cranes, Egrets, as well as alligators, turtles, snakes and many more wild creatures. Who knows, we might even see some manatees and American Crocodiles. We will visit John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park on Key Largo to view the reef on a glass bottom boat, swim and or maybe even snorkel. Key West is one of the destinations with opportunities galore to enjoy the shops, museums, and historical places and/or take advantage of the tours, etc available.
